Visit To ASTHAVAKRA SCHOOL

Students of YUVA club spent some beautiful moments with special children in ASTHAVAKRA SCHOOL on their first visit on 14-10-11. The day saw some amazingly beautiful performances by those children who taught us to love, respect & value every little thing we have been blessed with in life. The welcome by them was equally heart warming.                                                                                                                        School Counsellor

I really believe that just a glint of their smile can melt even the most solid hearts. That's the power of innocence. The best thing that I learned from my visit, was that, those children weren't disabled, but special. They were not like us, rude, notorious or selfish but instead possessed a kind loving soul ready to accept anyone who had love for them.I had always fancied, that how they felt.I remember from my childhood , that I started crying or making fuss, the moment I wasn't provided with a thing that I wanted, and now, I see them all happy and satisfied, not even showing that they had a problem. My heart was humbled ,when I first saw them and when I left the premises, I was a changed man.

Life is not a bunch of flowers for everyone and still spreading fragrance all around is the true essence of life which I learned when I visited Asthavakra Special School. My eyes were wide opened,my brain was stunned and my heart was overwhelmed when I saw those differently abled students (hearing impaired) dancing so beautifully to the beats of the music which was not actually falling on their ears. And then I presented the best of my performances from the bottom of my heart but my mind was bowed in gratitude and love for their achievements.

When I was told to write about my experience at the special school, I was a little confused as I have learnt many things .It became difficult for me to replicate my feelings. This was my very first visit to a special school .Earlier I wasn’t very sensitive to such issues and had a very practical thinking. But this visit has brought about a considerable change to my mind and my point of view. Now I have understood that how important these children are. I enjoyed a lot interacting with the students .One of the most eye-catching part was to see their dance performances. Despite of being deaf, they did a great job and performed very well. The teachers showed us a documentary film about their school. In that documentary, one person said a few words which attracted me a lot. He said that every person in this world has a disability. But the difference is that in some people this disability is visible but in some people it’s not. After giving a thought to this, I identified my disabilities and tried to cure them at my own level. Summarising all, the whole experience has made me realise that these children are not disabled but they are some special children with some special qualities. In future if I’ll be given the opportunity to attend such an event, I’ll surely go for it.
